The Magic of Handmade Ceramics by Gustavo Miranda

At Nimbus Design, we believe that behind every handmade object lies a story. And when we talk about pieces with soul, it's impossible not to mention Gustavo Miranda, the creative heart of Anhinga Clay Studios, an artist we are proud to have as part of our shop.

A journey that began within the family

Gustavo's creativity has deep roots. One of his grandmothers taught him the delicate art of calligraphy; the other, a love of plants and home. His wife, as well as his life partner, was the one who introduced him to the world of ceramics. Thus, with hands full of earth, ink, and love, he found his style.

A style that doesn't fit into a box

Gustavo's style is eclectic: one day he explores abstract shapes with textured glazes and dark tones; the next, he creates soft, light pieces inspired by gardening. He doesn't follow a single line: his creativity moves freely, like clay in his hands.

Techniques that paint stories

Different ceramic traditions coexist in her work. Among her favorites are raku, which always produces surprising results; porcelain, with its delicacy; pit firing, which imprints earth and smoke tones on the clay; and high-temperature firings, which give strength and character. Each technique leaves its mark, like an invisible signature on the piece.

Pieces that live with you

More than just decoration, Gustavo seeks to integrate his pieces into everyday life. From mugs and bowls for the kitchen to pots and vases for the home or office, each object is designed to be functional and, at the same time, a work of art.

His workshop: a laboratory of ideas

Sometimes he works in complete silence. Other times, the music of Brian Eno or Philip Glass accompanies him. And, in moments of energy, even heavy metal finds its place. For Gustavo, the workshop is a creative laboratory where taking risks and trying new things is part of the process.

Beyond Ceramics

When he's not at the wheel or modeling, Gustavo practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, tends his garden, cooks, and spends time with his family. This balance between the physical, creative, and personal is reflected in the energy of his pieces.
